ya know i have made a simple observation about the general mental process of most of the citizens of this world . today i spent almost a whole day ( a perfect
riding day i might add ) and against my better judgment i entered ELVIS into a bike show (it was for charity and thats what swayed me ) anyway , i waxed and
shined ELVIS up and put him in the show alongside of lomax's crack bike (he came up to hang out and joined the show with me ) so we were the first 2 bikes
to show up at the bar that was hosting the show , and in a little while a couple came up on a bone stock roadstar and enetered , then they started polishing
and armorall'ing everything they could , then a bit later 3 more bikes showed up a stock H.D dresser and a stock sporty and a store bought iron horse
"chopper" and that was it for the bike show entrants , well except for a lady who had a cheeta painted bicycle that thought it would be funny to
enter in a "bike" show so after waiting from 10 am till 3 pm for the folks at the street festival (for children i found out after we got there ) to
pay a dollar a vote for their favorite motorcycle , they announced the 3 winners . i would like to say i was surprized but that would be a lie ! the top 3 were
(1) the iron horse "chopper" (that the guy probably dont even know how to change the oil in ) (2) the stock sportster ( it was taxi cab yellow
w/official H.D. saddle bags ) and last but not least (3) the stock dresser (not even chromed out or custom painted , just a sales floor stock fucking bike ) .
now i didnt build ELVIS to be a trailer queen bike show trophy bike , i built it to ride and enjoy , and i know lomax sure as hell didnt build his bike for any
of that shit either , but after thinking about it for a while , i came to the realazation that people only look at the shiney atractive shit when they see a
bike , they dont look at the thought behind what the builder has made , or the form and function of the machine , they only see a paintjob that cost more than
my whole bike or a shiney billet this or that , and think wow that looks like one of the bikes from TV (american chopper ) so it is the coolest one here , i
quite frankly think the lady with the bicycle that was covered in a vinal decal from stem to stern that looked like a cheeta's spots complete with its face
on the front fender , had more charactor than all the shit they handed trophies to . this just solidifies what a started with on ELVIS , i built this bike for
me , i dont give a shit if anyone else likes it . but i hate to see thought out peices of mechanical art get looked past for a shiney paint job on a factory
bike .
